Peter J Greve TKE Alumni Scholarship of Northwest Missouri State University
The TKE Alumni of Northwest Missouri State University have established a $1000 scholarship that is available to graduating seniors (male or female). To be eligible, applicants must have maintained a high school cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above from ninth grade through the first semester of their senior year. The applicant must be an accepted entering freshman by Northwest Missouri State University and nominated by a TKE alumnus. No specific major is required.
The TKE Alumni of Northwest Missouri State University Scholarship was established in 2007 by Peter J. Greve, who attended Northwest Missouri State University from 1970-74 and served as Delta Nu Chapter president in 1973-74. A native of Elk Horn, IA, Pete died on March 21, 2009 after a six-month battle with cancer. He left behind his family, friends, and the TKE Alumni Scholarship program as part of his legacy.

TKE alumni serve as evaluators and will review student transcripts, supporting information, and recommendation letters in their deliberations. Applications are due February 1 each year for consideration.
Meet the 2020 Winners of the PJG Scholarship
Now into its 13th year, the Peter J. Greve Memorial TKE Alumni Scholarship continues to fulfill Pete’s vision to help deserving high school seniors experience college life at Northwest Missouri State University. The scholarship committee proudly announces the 2020 recipients of the Peter J. Greve Memorial TKE Alumni Scholarship: Breanna Chappell and Garrett Calvert.
Residing in Savannah, MO, Breanna is the daughter of Staff Sgt. (Ret.) Treston and Jennifer Chappell. Bre’s activities during high school include National Honor Society, tutoring underclassmen in US History, Show Choir and captain of the Dance Team; she wants to be a Bearcat Stepper when she arrives at NWMSU. While maintaining a 3.8 GPA Breanna found time to volunteer at the local soup kitchen and Aseracare Hospice.
Breanna notes her time in high school was fraught with challenges and emotions; she had to grow up when in her sophomore year her father was deployed and now, during her senior year her older sister has been called to active duty.
Her teachers are impressed with her ability to “power through adversity;” Breanna’s high school counselor writes “I know with her strength and determination, she will achieve great things and be an amazing contributing member of her community.” Her Social Studies teacher writes “Ms. Chappell’s academic accomplishments are rivaled only by her personal traits.”
Breanna was nominated by her grandfather, Richard (Rocky) Riggs, Delta Nu scroll 627. She will continue a 4 generation legacy of attending Northwest Missouri State University. Bre has already mapped her future: since a little girl she has wanted to be a K9 Police Officer and at NWMSU (her dream college) will major in Criminology with a minor in Criminal Justice.
Garrett Calvert was nominated by Frater David Cox, Delta Nu scroll 960. The son of Christopher and Gail Calvert, Garrett reports his experiences in high school were “up and down” when during the summer between his junior and senior year the family moved to Carrollton, MO from Keytesville.
Garrett’s high school accomplishments include: 2018 and 2019 Academic All-State First Team Baseball, Academic All-State First Team Football, Academic All-Conference Football, Football and Basketball team captain, Varsity Track, National Honor Society, plus many others…all this while maintaining a 4.02 GPA.
Community activities include participating in local FFA activities, assisting annual Lion’s Club dinners and officiating little league basketball and baseball. Plus, still doing his chores on the farm.
His goals are to graduate from NWMSU with a Bachelor’s degree in Recreation and Corporate Wellness, and move back to his hometown to eventually open up his own fitness center.
Recommendations are glowing, include “amazing work ethic,” “Garrett’s character is equally as impressive as his academic achievements,” “great role model,” “his ability to go the extra mile is unmatched.” Aprill Lock from Carrollton High School sums him up best: “Garrett’s motivation to complete quality work will make him a great college student in today’s society. I…look forward to seeing all of the amazing things that he does in the future.”
Each applicant was rated in several areas that include: Attendance, Essay Quality, Need, Overall Presentation and Participation, Recommendation Letters and Transcript.
